Lifeguards and Guest Services Reps: Water Park and Tink Larson Community Field

Looking for a summer job? The City of Waseca is currently recruiting candidates to work at the Water Park and Tink Larson Community Field this summer! We are accepting applications until 4 p.m. on February 5. Mail your application to Waseca City Hall at 508 South State Street, or email it to humanresources@ci.waseca.mn.us, or drop it off at City Hall.

The first game at Tink Larson Community Field is scheduled the beginning of April, so Guest Services Representatives (concessions and admissions) will start working for the season as early as April 1, and will be scheduled to work at both the Water Park and Tink Larson Community Field throughout the summer.

Lifeguards will work at the Water Park only. Lifeguard certification training will be available in May or June. Applicants who would like to start the season as a Guest Services Representative and then transfer to a Lifeguard position once trained and certified are welcome to apply. Just apply for a Guest Services Representative position and indicate on your application that you would like to work as a Lifeguard once you are certified.

Starting pay for Guest Services Representatives is $10.55 per hour. Starting pay for Lifeguards is $11.64 per hour.

Patrol Officer

The City of Waseca is seeking a full-time Patrol Officer.

Under limited supervision, this position performs a variety of law enforcement functions, such as routine patrol, criminal investigations (both initial and ongoing) involving state and local laws and ordinances, and traffic law enforcement. Through the enforcement of laws and ordinances, we achieve the protection of life and property. Special assignments may be received that call upon specialized abilities and knowledge usually acquired through experience, training, or education.

Candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent training at a technical or vocational school with a focus on Law Enforcement.
  • A valid full-time Peace Officer License issued by the Minnesota Police Officers Standards and Training Board (POST).  We will also consider candidates who are not yet licensed by POST but are scheduled to take the POST exam.
  • First Aid and CPR knowledge.
  • A valid Minnesota driver’s license.

No previous police experience is required. Lateral transfers will be considered.

The hiring process includes a medical, psychological, and drug screening.

The starting pay for this position is $63,937 per year, depending on qualifications. The current maximum salary for this position is $79,922.

Visitation and Exchange Monitor

The City of Waseca is seeking a part-time Visitation and Exchange Monitor.

Under limited supervision, this service position monitors visits and exchanges of non-custodial parents and their child(ren) at the Connections visitation center. Visitation and Exchange Monitors follow the center’s policy and procedures to ensure the overall safety of the clients. 

Candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma of GED
  • One year of clerical and/or customer service experience.

The starting pay for this position is $10.61 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Police Reserve Volunteers

Are you interested in helping protect and serve Waseca’s citizens and visitors in a part-time, volunteer capacity? The Waseca Police Reserves currently has openings for qualified persons to join our team.

Chartered in 1974, the Waseca Police Reserves are a volunteer unit of the Waseca Police Department and provide assistance to the WPD through patrol services, educational events, traffic control and security at Waseca’s parades and festivals, and much more. The unit meets once per month and each Reserve Officer is scheduled a weekend evening patrol shift 1-2 times per month. Reserve Officers do not have the same authority as a licensed MN Peace Officer and are limited in their enforcement powers. Uniforms and training are provided on an ongoing basis.

To be considered for employment, potential applicants must:

  • File a written application on the form prescribed and furnished by the City of Waseca.
  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Reside within the boundaries of the Waseca Public Schools District.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid Minnesota Driver's License and have a good driving record.

  • Submit to fingerprinting, background check, police contacts check, oral interviews and/or any other type of examination and/or testing as may be prescribed by the Chief of Police.

Internship: Community Development

Under direct supervision, the Community Development Intern works with the Community Development Department in all aspects of planning, zoning, and code compliance. The position interacts with the public regarding zoning inquiries, variances, conditional use permits, minor and major subdivisions, interpretation of the Waseca City Code and receiving property maintenance complaints. The position performs technical field inspections and investigation work in the enforcement of the City’s zoning, sign, exterior property maintenance, nuisance, environmental control, and other ordinances. The Community Development Intern is provided the opportunity to prepare and present information to the Planning Commission and City Council.

Starting pay is $13.50 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any combination of training and education at an accredited college or university toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, or a closely related field.
  • Valid Minnesota Driver’s License by start date.
  • Experience with software programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with and access to virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams)

The City of Waseca is seeking an intern in the Finance Department.  This entry level administrative finance internship position provides an opportunity to learn about the City’s daily financial processes (general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipting, payroll) and gain valuable knowledge about a career in government finance.  We are seeking a current or past student majoring in the Accounting field with an interest in government finance.  The applicant must have strong computer skills with MS Office (Excel and Word), be ambitious, ready to learn and have an above average GPA.

Starting wage is $13.50. Flexible starting date and schedule are available in order to accommodate the needs of the intern and the City of Waseca.
