Brown Avenue & Well No. 2 Water Main Improvements

Project Description: Construction of 16" water main to replace existing 10" water main in the following locations: (1) Along Brown Avenue from approximately 150 feet west of Elm Ave (Old Hwy 14) to the West City Limits (about 550 feet east of 110th St), and (2) From the west end of 5th Ave SW to the NE corner of the U of MN Southern Research & Outreach Center.  The scope of work consists of water main replacement and the restoration of impacted pavement, utilities, etc.    

Project Status: On March 25th, six (6) bids were opened with a low bid received of $937,678.36.  The low bidder (GM Contracting Inc.) was awarded the project on May 4th.  Construction began June 9th and the project was completed on September 10th.  

Project Costs & Funding:  Total construction costs were $939,013.88.  Stantec was contracted for design and inspection on this project for approximately $190,000.  50% of the construction costs and about 30% of the design and inspection costs were funded by a Business Development Public Infrastructure (BDPI) grant awarded by the MN Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).  The remaining project costs were funded by the City's water utility and these improvements were not be assessed to adjacent property owners.
