Hwy 13 Safe Routes to School & Trail Improvements Project

Project Description: This project involved construction of approximately 1,685 feet of new 10 foot wide trail at the following locations: (1) The east side of North State Street (Hwy 13) between 15th Avenue and 19th Avenue, and (2) From 2nd Street NW (Waseca High School front entrance) to the east side of North State Street (Hwy 13) at 17th Avenue.  Scope of work included grading, rock subbase, new bituminous trail pavement, ADA ramps, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, driveway replacement, and a pedestrian crosswalk flasher system. 

Project Status: This project was designed by Stantec and bids were received on October 22, 2020.  The project was awarded to the low bidder, Ulland Brothers Inc. of Albert Lea, MN, for a total of $273,698.01.  Construction began in late April 2021 and the new trail pavement was completed the last week of May.  Grading and seeding were completed the week of June 7th.  Due to a longer lead time for the materials, installation of the pedestrian flasher warning system occurred the week of October 11th and it was operational on October 27th.

Project Costs & Funding: A majority of this project was funded by a federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant.  An explanation of how costs are distributed is shown below:
